Beat the mixture at medium speed with a hand mixer or you can mix everything with a wooden spoon until the mixture is well combined and the sugars have lost their graininess. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well. Stir in the vanilla extract.
-
Add the flour mixture all at once and beat at medium speed (or with a spoon) just until the dry ingredients are well combined. Stir the sides of the bowl with a spatula and beat for about another minute to make sure all the flour is blended. Fold in the chocolate chips .
-
Evenly drop the batter in large spoonfuls into the buttered pan and gently press the mixture with lightly floured fingers until even.
-
Bake for 22-25 minutes until the top is brown and the cookies are just cooked in the center. Sprinkle with flaked sea salt, if desired.
-
Let cool completely before slicing into 20 squares.
